The Hakomi Institute of California offers workshops and professional trainings in Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychology.

Introductory Workshops

Introductory Workshops introduce the general public to the Hakomi Method and prepare interested participants for our longer trainings.

Application Workshops extend the Hakomi Method to important topics in psychotherapy today.

For more information, please see Weekend Workshops.

The Hakomi Comprehensive Training is taught in two modules, each for nine months, one weekend per month. It typically begins in March and ends in December of each year. It is designed to train non-clinical professionals who wish to incorporate various aspects of the Hakomi Method into their profession. It also provides a more in-depth training to clinicians. Please see Hakomi Comprehensive Training for more details.

The Hakomi Professional Training begins in the fall of each year. Participants meet one weekend per month (Friday-Sunday) for seven months. This training is designed for clinically trained professionals and advanced clinical interns. Please see Hakomi Professional Training for more details.

these trainings apply the principles and techniques of the Hakomi Method to various disciplines.

Hakomi Character Map

The Hakomi Character Map is 3 weekend training in Hakomi-based, non-pathologizing character theory and therapeutic strategies to intervene effectively with each type. Please see Hakomi Character Map for more details

Re-Creation of the Self (R-CS)

The Re-Creation of the Self [R-CS], developed by Senior Hakomi Trainer Jon Eisman, is both a comprehensive map of the Self and a radical, highly effective method of therapy. Viewing the Self as innately resourced, R-CS seeks to identify fragmented states of consciousness, held as neural patterns in the brain, that perpetuate both our illusory sense of wounding, and the limited behaviors that follow. This Training teaches both the nuances of the model, and specific skills for transforming consciousness. Because the techniques are drawn from Hakomi, basic training in Hakomi is a prerequisite. Please see Re-Creation of the Self for more details.

Experiential Couples Training

The Experiential Couples Training combines state of the art theory and practice of couples work with a somatic, mindfulness-based approach to communication and systems theory. The Hakomi Method is particularly powerful in its work with couples, in its ability to slow habitual interactions down in order to invite non-defensive study; identify family of origin and ‘real-time’ issues; and help partners create healthier and more satisfying relational styles. This training is usually taught in a two- or three-weekend format. Please see Experiential Couples Training for more details.

From Trauma to Dharma

This professional training offers the clinician practical tools for working somatically with trauma, PTSD, and early relational issues. It is unique in offering multiple views and models for working with traumatized clients; its goal is for each clinician to develop an individual philosophy and approach to helping the clients that they know best. This is a training offering diverse somatic perspectives, including Rothschild's Somatic Trauma Therapy, Hakomi psychotherapy, Movement Therapy, attachment theory and infant mental health. Please see Trauma for more details.

Attending to Attachment

This training provides a comprehensive approach to adult attachment systems and promotes secure attachment as the cornerstone to well-being.  With a unique framework based in mindfulness and somatic awareness, clinicians will explore their own attachment systems, the attachment system dynamics in therapeutic relationships as well as specific interventions and skills for helping clients. The training draws from multiple theories of attachment, neuroscience, and affect regulation. One of the highlights of this training is a “client friendly” map that helps clinicians address the habits and limitations of secondary attachment systems from a strengths based perspective.

Supervision & Consultation

The Trainers of the Hakomi Institute of California offer both individual and group supervision and consultation for therapists, interns and students of the method..

  Hakomi Practice Groups

Our faculty offers a number of Hakomi practice groups to students and graduates of our trainings.  These small groups provide an opportunity to practice the Hakomi Method in a live setting and receive feedback from one of our experienced Certified Hakomi Trainers. The focus is on deepening the underlying skills involved in the practice of Hakomi, developing understanding of therapeutic strategy, and exploring the internal state of the therapist. These groups are offered in various formats throughout the Bay Area.

Please see Hakomi Practice Groups for more information.
